YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness Garegin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, on September 15 hosted former President of Germany Joachim Gauck who arrived in Armenia on a five-day visit at the invitation of His Holiness, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin told Armenpress.

His Holiness Garegin II welcomed the former German President’s visit to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and expressed gratitude to Mr. Gauck for the key contribution to the adoption of the 2016 resolution in the German Bundestag on recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide.

In his turn the former German President thanked His Holiness Garegin II for the warm welcome and the opportunity to visit the ancient Christian sacred place. He said his visit opens good prospects for the expansion of the Armenian-German relations.

During the meeting the participants highlighted the importance of spiritual and cultural values.

Joachim Gauck reaffirmed his readiness to boost the Armenian-German ties and contribute to the future cooperation development.

Gauck is scheduled to visit the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial, as well as several monasteries and historical-cultural sites. He will also get acquainted with the activities of different structures of the Armenian Church.
