Pashinyan holds meeting with environmentalists, concerned citizens regarding Amulsar mine

YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, ARMENPRESS. The meeting summoned by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan over the Amulsar gold mine issue has commenced at the Presidential Office in Yerevan.

The meeting is proceeding behind closed doors, but there are reports that the Jermuk mayor, city council members, environmental activists and other stakeholders are participating.

A group of activities are staging a protest outside the Presidential Palace against the Amulsar mine’s operations. Environmentalist have also launched a motorcade from Jermuk to Yerevan.

The meeting comes days after authorities released the audit report conducted by ELARD, a foreign company that was tasked to carry out an environmental audit in Amulsar. The Government is expected to make a decision regarding the operation of the mine.
