It's official: Astana renamed to Nur-Sultan as new president signs law

YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the law on renaming the country’s capital to Nur-Sultan, the Kazakh presidency reported.
Tokayev launched the renaming process of Astana shortly after assuming office on March 20, a day after Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down as president after nearly 30 years in office.
Apart from renaming the capital city in honor of Nazarbayev, Tokayev has also suggested renaming a central street in the city to Nursultan.
But not all were happy over changing Astana to Nursultan.
Around 60 people were arrested earlier in demonstrations against the proposal in the Kazakh capital.
