The cooperation between the two countries is expanding through the project "Days of Maltese
music in Armenia"

YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS. The co-concertmaster of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, violinist Reggie Clews thinks that the Armenian and Maltese people are much alike. The musician, who was in Armenia during the project "Days of Maltese music in Armenia", was in our country for the first time, but the atmosphere here reminded him of his home.

"I observed many similarities between the Maltese and the Armenians. Though we are different in the respect of population and geographical location, we have many common values, we have the same religion. While working with the musicians here, I noticed that our musicians are very similar. They both share the love towards music. I do not feel like a stranger here, people are very hospitable, like in Malta," says the musician.

Reggie Clews was impressed by the Garni pagan temple and the visit to Geghard Monastery. He observed that they are simply magnificent monuments. Being a great enthusiast of history, the violinist affirms that Armenia is a country with an ancient and rich history.

He says Armenian musicians are very talented, and it is not surprising. "I know many Armenian musicians, I know your music school and many famous soloists. For example, Sergey Smbatyan is a very good conductor, he has a great repertoire and is very industrious. I have spoken to him in Malta, during the tours, he had conducted the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a very good person, a talented musician. I admire his dedication to music," the violinist underlines. Reggie Clews says he is impressed by the Chamber Music Hall, and notes that there are no such concert halls in Malta, which is bad.

As to the project "Days of Maltese music in Armenia" it is a great idea, through which the cooperation of the two countries is expanding. "For example, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra has come to Malta for several weeks, and we have been lucky to hear them and play with them." The musician also stresses the special role the European Foundation for Support of Culture played in the context of organizing the projects.

In addition to performing with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Reggie regularly performs as soloist and chamber musician, having recently performed the entire cycle of Nicolo Paganini's 24 Caprices in China, Romania, Malta and Gozo.

He worked with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra and San Diego Opera. He has featured as soloist with the Imperial Valley Symphony, North Coast Symphony, Tefareth Israel Orchestra, and the California Consort, while recording several Oscar-winning film scores and Grammy Award-winning albums. In addition to his musical achievements, he has an Associates of Sciences Degree in Business Management.

The aim of the project “Days of Maltese music in Armenia” is to present Malta's culture in Armenia by organizing various cultural events. The project is implemented with the initiative of the European Foundation for Support of Culture and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
