Iranians celebrate 40th anniversary of Islamic Revolution

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Mass celebrations are underway in more than 1000 cities and 10,000 settlements in Iran marking the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Tasnim news agency reported.

Rallies are held since early morning, thousands of Iranians are waiving the state flag and posters. Many are chanting mottos, including “Death to America”.

In Tehran, a central plaza is full of citizens awaiting the appearance of President Hassan Rouhani.

Shah of Iran Mohammed Reza Pahlavi was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution on February 11 in 1979, 10 days after Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution, arrived back to Iran from France, where he was in exile.
