UPDATED: Diaspora Ministry seeks opinions of Armenians across the world over amending national anthem
YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Ministry of Diaspora will attempt to collect the opinions of Armenian communities from across the world regarding the idea of amending the national anthem, Acting Minister of Diaspora Babken DerGrigorian said on Facebook.
“Taking into consideration that the anthem of the Republic of Armenia is one of the state symbols, we began to hear out the opinion of the Diaspora,” he said. “The regional departments of the ministry are already tasked to collect the opinions of Armenian communities from across the world about the amendment of the anthem”.
DerGrigorian also encouraged Diaspora-Armenians to express their opinions by email at [email protected].
UPDATE - 14:24: Shortly after writing the abovementioned statement, the acting minister made another post on his Facebook account. He said that amending the national anthem is not on the agenda.
"Dear citizens, taking into consideration that my latest [Facebook] post gained broad public discussion, I would like to clarify: there is no amendment of the Armenian anthem on the agenda.
Given the resonance of the matter and the numerous calls that we have received from the Diaspora, we simply couldn’t ignore. With this option we wanted to receive opinions from broader circles and present them to the public’s attention.
My [Facebook] post was non-official, regional departments of the Ministry of Diaspora are regularly carrying out surveys regarding any given resonant issue in Armenia.
P.S. – I am deleting my previous post in order to avoid misunderstanding", - DerGrigorian said.
