Armenia should ensure technological presence in Iran – expert on Iranian studies

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. According to expert on Iranian studies Vardan Voskanyan, there is a need for more intensive talks over types of products through which Armenia can be presented in the Iranian market, reports Armenpress.

“It’s not realistic to expect that Iran will become a market for Armenian agricultural products, since Iran exports agricultural goods”, the expert told reporters, commenting on the question whether it will be possible to export the Armenian products to the Iranian market in a facilitated way.

“Being almost a self-sufficient country, Iranians produce almost everything in their own country, this is a special policy aimed at ensuring the country’s security. They protect their own market setting high customs duties, as well as numerous bans on imported products”, Vardan Voskanyan said.

But he stated that there are some fields where Armenian can easily compete, for instance, the field of high technologies where Iranians need a foreign presence. Vardan Voskanyan said Armenia especially in the mechanical engineering can be useful since Iranians try to create industrial capacities. “There is a problem of system modernization, I think our specialists can successfully implement it”, the expert on Iranian studies said.
