YEREVAN, DECEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia, Chairman of the National Security Council Serzh Sargsyan on December 15 convened a session of the National Security Council during which issues relating to the development of the military-industrial complex, strengthening the legal and institutional preconditions for fight against terrorism were discussed, press service of the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

Davit Pakhchanyan, deputy defense minister, chairman of the State Military-Industrial Commission, reported the first issue to the Council members, whereas Head of the National Security Service Georgi Kutoyan and Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan reported on Armenia’s steps aimed at fighting against terrorism, problems and further actions.  

The NSC members approved the “State program for development of military-industrial complex”.  As a result of the discussion certain instructions were given to the government based on the presented proposals.

Thereafter, the National Security Council approved the draft “Timetable-action plan aimed at ensuring the implementation of the provisions of the anti-terrorism national strategy in Armenia” and tasked the government to implement it within the set timeframes.

It was reported that the “Timetable-action plan aimed at ensuring the implementation of the provisions of the anti-terrorism national strategy in Armenia” approved by the government in 2012 needs improvement taking into account the current geopolitical developments, the high level of terror threats in the region, as well as the development and change trends of terrorism.

The Armenian President mentioned three main directions for fight against terrorism: improvement of operative intelligence operations, including improvement of technical tools, capacity building of counteraction units, expansion of international cooperation and exchange of leading experience.
