Mexico has balanced position on NK conflict: Armenian Ambassador’s interview to El Universal

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. No country is allowed to threaten or slander the people’s representatives of another nation, Armenia’s Ambassador to Mexico Ara Ayvazyan said in an interview to El Universal, commenting on official Baku’s hysteria regarding the visit of Mexican lawmakers to Artsakh.

“The Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not a land dispute, it’s about preventing another genocide: what the Turks couldn’t do to the Armenians is what the Azerbaijanis wanted to do to the people of Nagorno Karabakh. Armenia will never allow this tragedy to happen because Armenia is the guardian of prevention and punishment of genocide on the international stage. Generating hysteria from the visit of the deputies is aimed towards one single objective: to avoid similar trips, yet it will have the opposite effect of what they intend”, the Armenian Ambassador said.

Ara Ayvazyan clarified that Mexican MPs visited Artsakh with their own resources to see first-hand the situation in Nagorno Karabakh. “We didn’t expect the pronunciation of any statement pro-Armenia or against Azerbaijan, and we wanted them to see first-hand what this is all about”, he said.

The Ambassador assured that the visit of Mexican deputies to Artsakh was a “gesture of political courage”, stating that they are neither the first nor the last deputies to visit Nagorno Karabakh.

The Ambassador informed that he met with president of the Lower house of the Mexican parliament. “I won’t say what we talked about, but was very satisfied”, he said, adding that he once again was convinced that Mexico’s position on this issue is balanced.
