“Rights should be protected regardless of status of territory”: Human Rights Day celebrated in
Artsakh

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. On the occasion of the Human Rights Day on December 10, Armenia’s Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan and the delegation led by him visited Artsakh on December 9-11, the Ombudsman’s Office told Armenpress.

The delegation met with President of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan. The meeting was also attended by Artsakh human rights defender Ruben Melikyan. During the meeting issues relating to the human rights protection and the cooperation of the two structures dealing with human rights were discussed.

During the visit the results of competition for 9-12 graders of Artsakh were summed up. During the event the Armenian Ombudsman said the rights should be protected regardless of the status of the territory: the civilized world should recognize Artsakh with its democratic institutions.

“This year we are celebrating the International Human Rights Day in Artsakh. It’s symbolic in case of Artsakh since the 1991 independence and 2006 Constitutional referendums of Artsakh were held on this day. The institution of the Artsakh human rights defender should have an independent involvement in international meetings, and the visit of international partners to Artsakh should continue intensifying”, Arman Tatoyan said.

Ombudsman Tatoyan also met with the representatives Artsakh’s small and medium enterprise development association. Agreements were reached to implement joint programs.
