Speaker Babloyan receives UNDP Resident Representative for Armenia Bradley Busetto

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Parliament Speaker Ara Babloyan on December 11 received UNDP Resident Representative for Armenia Bradley Busetto, the Parliament told Armenpress.

The meeting was also attended by Vice Speaker of the Parliament Arpine Hovhannisyan and the Parliament’s chief of staff-general secretary Ara Saghatelyan.

Speaker Babloyan welcomed the guest and attached importance to the existing productive cooperation between the Armenian Parliament and UNDP.

The Speaker touched upon the ongoing reforms in Armenia in the fields of human rights, democracy, fight against domestic violence and etc.

Ara Babloyan highlighted the importance of transition to a parliamentary system of governance as a result of the constitutional changes, the upcoming legislative changes and the expansion of the control functions of the Parliament.

Talking about the transparency of the Parliament’s activity, Speaker Babloyan emphasized the importance of the civil society participation in legislative processes, as well as ensuring the public awareness. He highly appreciated the continued cooperation with UNICEF. Ara Babloyan expressed hope that Parliament-UNDP cooperation will be continuous and productive.

Bradley Busetto thanked for the reception and highlighted the cooperation with the Armenian Parliament. He noted that the UNDP aims at raising the effectiveness of the Parliament’s activity from legislative and control perspectives.

At the end of the meeting the sides touched upon the UNDP achievements in the region, the initiatives directed for the capacity development of the Parliament’s staff.
