YEREVAN, DECEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia rejects the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the Catholicosate told Armenpress.

His Holiness Aram I delivered remarks at the World General National Assembly of the Catholicosate in Lebanon touching upon US President’s Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Catholicos Aram I rejected this step and said it is not in accordance with the justice of the international law and the historical reality.

According to His Holiness, such a move may have negative repercussions in the Middle East and may jeopardize the peace process.

The event was also attended by President of Lebanon Michel Aoun who in his turn presented the Lebanese stance on President Trump’s statement.

His Holiness Aram I also talked about the role of Diaspora communities. The Lebanese President highlighted the importance of the Armenian Diaspora and the necessity to preserve the Armenian language, values and culture.
