YEREVAN, DECEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. US Congressman Gus Bilirakis says the United States should provide financial assistance to those countries that hosted Christian refugees from the Middle East, reports Armenpress.

“I think we ought to provide assistance to the states that hosted Christians from Syria and Iraq. President Trump also supports that we should be the protector of Christians across the world”, the Congressman told Voice of America.

He said Armenia, which hosted numerous Christians from the Middle East over the past years, also can expect an aid for assisting the refugees. “I call on Armenia’s representatives to contact me, I will be happy to work with them on this matter”, he said.

During a conference on religious freedom in Washington DC, the Republican Congressman highlighted the importance of the Armenian Genocide recognition at the Congress level. He told the reporter that he is going to discuss this issue with the Republican Congressmen. “I think the resolution can be adopted, we will discuss it with our leaders, firstly the issue should be discussed at the foreign affairs committee, and then when it is adopted here, we will include the Armenian Genocide resolution in the agenda of the House of Representatives”, Gus Bilirakis said.
