Scientists work on making quantum mechanics more practical – physician Lawrence Krauss
YEREVAN, JUNE 19, ARMENPRESS. Over the past 20 years the world has undergone significant technological changes, and the latest discoveries in quantum mechanics are especially important, Lawrence Krauss - famous physician, cosmologist and advocate of the public understanding of science, said during the press conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Kaspersky Lab, reports Armenpress.
The physician said currently scientists are working on installing quantum technologies, as well as on practically using the opportunities of quantum mechanics.
“New materials can be created through quantum mechanics, moreover, one can think about how to use the strange quantum properties to create new technologies, and why not, a quantum computer”, he said, adding that the quantum computers will have good and bad sides.
“There is no doubt that the attackers can later easily decipher the passwords of bank cards via the quantum computers, however, on the other hand, such computers also enable to quickly solve problems which are impossible in case of the remaining computers. Therefore, the quantum technologies can really have a practical use”, the scientist said.
Lawrence Krauss considers the ability of making manipulations with nanoscale objects as an achievement of the past 20 years since this opportunity can be sued at different spheres and has a great practical potential.
Speaking about future, the physician said he doesn’t want to predict it as it is almost impossible.
“It’s very easy to say what will happen 3 trillion years later since in case of being wrong no one will be able to punish you. It is more difficult to say what will happen in the world 20 years later. It is very difficult to speak about future, and in my opinion, the most interesting discoveries are the ones about which we are not talking now”, Lawrence Krauss said.
