Three ethnic Armenians elected as MPs of France

YEREVAN, JUNE 19, ARMENPRESS. Almost all Armenian and pro-Armenian candidates recorded a victory in the 2nd round of French parliamentary elections, reports Armenpress.

Majority of the candidates with Armenian origin have been nominated by President Emmanuel Macron’s The En Marche! (On the Move) party.

Danièle Cazarian (En Marche!) won in Bouches-du-Rhône’s 13 electoral district with 52.35% of votes. Guillaume Kasbarian (En Marche!) from d’Eure-et-Loir first electoral district has been elected as an MP receiving 57.8% of the votes.

Pascal Chamassian lost the election in the first electoral district of Bouches-du-Rhône, and the winner became Republican Valérie Boyer who is the author of one of the bills criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

Also a number of candidates from different regions and parties famous for their pro-Armenian stances have been elected as members of the French parliament.

President Macron’s The En Marche! party will have 308 seats in the parliament. The Democratic movement party will have 42 seats. 113 seats will be given to Republicans, 29 to Socialists.

The voter turnout was 42.6%, a record low figure for France.
