Parliament’s Vice-Speaker Sharmazanov hosts Greek Ambassador to Armenia

YEREVAN, JUNE 15, ARMENPRESS. Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov on June 15 held a meeting with Ambassador of Greece to Armenia H.E. Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila, press service of the Parliament told Armenpress.

Welcoming the guest, Sharmazanov assessed the Armenian-Greek centuries-old ties as friendly, stating that the current level of political relations of both countries is on high basis. He expressed gratitude to the Greek Parliament for adoption of resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide, as well as informed that the lawmakers of Armenia and Artsakh unanimously adopted statements condemning the genocides of Greeks and Assyrians committed by Ottoman Empire. In this context, Eduard Sharmazanov attached importance to unification of efforts of both states on international condemnation of the Genocide and the condemnation of denial since, according to him, it is a step towards human rights protection, and Greece need to take actions here.  

The officials also talked about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. In this regard, Sharmazanov said: “The Artsakh issue is not a territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is an issue of exercise of right to self-determination of Artsakh people: people who want to decide their fate in their historical homeland. Artsakh people’s fight is fight for freedom, and the civilized world should support their fight”.

In her turn the Greek Ambassador thanked for warm reception and attached importance to development of inter-parliamentary ties, as well as expansion of cooperation at various international platforms.
