YEREVAN, JUNE 8, ARMENPRESS. Lawmaker of the ruling party faction of the parliament Mr. Karen Bekaryan says the international community should change its ways of dealing with Azerbaijan.

The Member of Parliament told reporters that Azerbaijan is failing to implement its assumed international obligations, therefore the international community must change its conduct towards this country.

“The international community should have had changed its way of handling Azerbaijan a long time ago. Even the recent discussions in the Council of Europe show that many countries understand that Azerbaijan has crossed all the lines”, Bekaryan said.

Commenting on the International Crisis Group’s report entitled “Nagorno Karabakh’s Gathering War Clouds”, Bekaryan said that Armenia has become convinced in all levels that it has an adversary the degree of trust for which is rather low, therefore there is nobody in Armenia who thinks that there is no possibility of war. According to him, the fact that the issue has come under such international attention is associated with several significant factors.

“The first is regarding the April War, because the conventional normal rhythm for them – the international structures, was deviated, therefore also gained attention. The second factor is Azerbaijan’s rhetoric, which contains elements of anti-Armenian sentiment and animosity. Meaning this is also in the focus of international structures. The third factor is the domestic situation of Azerbaijan, espionage scandals and various arrests. This gives both us and our international partners the basis to think that if the used authoritarian power becomes more disproportional, it causes the issue of deviating the people’s attention somehow from other issues”, he said.
