Inflow of foreign direct investments is positive: 19.7 billion AMD investments registered in first
quarter of 2017

YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Economic Development and Investments Suren Karayan, commenting on the negative flow of foreign investments, said it is linked with the Armenian companies’ making advance payments to their foreign partners, reports Armenpress.

“The net flow of foreign investments is negative which is mainly related with the fact that numerous advance payments were made within the frames of investment programs so that main resources are directed to Armenia, therefore, this is seen as negative. But the inflow of foreign direct investments is positive: 19.7 billion AMD direct investments were recorded in the first quarter of 2017. Moreover, numerous investments and reinvestments were made by local investors. Thus, the programs we announced are being implemented normally, and the net negative inflow should not be presented as an outflow of capital from Armenia since they include the money the Armenian companies transferred as advance payments to foreign producers to acquire main resources”, the Minister told reporters after the Government session on June 1.
