YEREVAN, MAY 29, ARMENPRESS. Numerous medals, certificates of appreciation, words of gratitude from high-ranking officials, militaries of Armenia and other countries: the path passed by the Armenian Armed Forces’ peacekeepers is marked with high level of appreciation.

Commander of the Peacekeeping Brigade of the Armenian Armed Forces, Major General Artur Simonyan told a press conference in Armenpress that during their missions Armenian peacekeepers have always been distinguished with high level of preparedness: and this is not coincidential, it is a result of everyday hard work.

The Peacekeeping Brigade of the Armenian Armed Forces participates in implementation of all issues of the Armed Forces and carries out peacekeeping mission in other states, in accordance with the UN requirements.

The Armenian peacekeepers carried out their missions in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and etc. since 2004.

“We have received words of gratitude from numerous foreign partners. Our first military group discovered unexploded ammunition in the area of airport of the Afghan city of Kunduz. In that same airport our troops found two internationally wanted Afghans. Later it was revealed that they were terrorists. They were exploring the airport territory to find possible ways for carrying out terror attack”, Simonyan said.

Artur Simonyan informed that the NATO partners want to increase the number of peacekeepers.

“Our NATO partners are interested that we have 3 battalions to conduct the mission in shifts. The process of equipping with technique, weapon is not over yet, it is in process”, Simonyan said.

Currently 65 Armenian troops carry out peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan’s Mazar-i-Sharif city, 56 in the capital Kabul, 40 in Kosovo, and 32 in Lebanon.

Artur Simonyan added that the Armenian peacekeepers are going to participate in large-scale military exercises in Germany and Kazakhstan. He said military exercises will be held also in Armenia.
