GYUMRI, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Aurora Prize-2016 Laureate Marguerite Barankitse and Aurora Prize-2017 nominee Tom Catena visited the Armenian city of Gyumri, reports Armenpress.

Firstly they visited Gyumri’s Holy Martyrs Catholic Church.

Marguerite Barankitse prayed for recovery of all patients in the Church and then performed a song dedicated to St. Mary.

“As a Christian, I must say that love will save the world. The fact that this city has been destroyed during the earthquake, but now we are here in this Church, is the victory of this love. I know you had the courage to pass this painful and tragic page. I know that Charles Aznavour’s famous song dedicated to memory of earthquake victims was born in this city”, Marguerite Barankitse said.

Dr. Tom Catena, who also is well-known in the world for his great humanitarian activities, talked about the difficult and responsible work as being a doctor. He thanked the 3 Armenian doctors who departed for Sudan to substitute for him while he is in Armenia. Dr. Tom Catena is the sole doctor permanently based in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains, home to 750,000 people.

“I could not be here if Armenian doctors didn’t come to Sudan, since there is a lot of work to do. I am very grateful to the Armenian doctors who came and replaced me”, Tom Catena said.
