Constitutional Court rejects Congress-PPA election dispute, upholds official results

YEREVAN, APRIL 28, ARMENPRESS. The Constitutional Court of Armenia rejected Congress-PPAs appeal on disputing the April 2 parliamentary election results and upheld the April 9 Central Electoral Commission’s official results.

The Constitutional Court began examining the appeal on April 28, and the court held a consultation on April 28 to deliver a verdict.

The Court noted Congress-PPA had 1582 members of district electoral commissions, comprising 94 percent of polling stations. The district electoral commission members have signed all protocols, validating the results of polling stations, a reality which is unprecedented in the practice of national elections in Armenia. In this context, applying to the Constitutional Court becomes an end in itself and gives cause to political speculations.

Therefore, the first session of the newly elected Parliament will be convened on the third Thursday after the Court’s ruling, i.e. May 18.

According to the country’s legislation, the government will resign on that day.
