NATO chief urges Turkey to respect rule of law

YEREVAN, APRIL 28, ARMENPRESS. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned Turkey over the arrests, detentions and suspensions in connection with the July 15 military coup attempt, RT reported.

“Turkey has the right to protect itself and also to prosecute those who were behind the failed coup attempt. But that has to take place based on the rule of law, full respect to the rule of law”, Stoltenberg said ahead of an EU defense ministers’ meeting in Valetta, Malta as quoted by RT.

He said he attaches importance to these values and discussed this issue with the Turkish leadership.

After the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey over 47.000 people were arrested. Hundreds of thousands of people were dismissed from their posts.
