New technical equipment rule out any electoral frauds at the polling stations – test shows

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS. The technical equipment to be applied during the upcoming parliamentary elections of Armenia were first successfully tested on March 25.

Chairman of the Central Electoral Committee Tigran Mukuchyan told “Armenpress” that the application of the new technical equipment ensures full transparency of the entire electoral process, particularly the registration process, ruling out any double voting or voting by citizens registered in other polling stations. “Considering that proxies, media representatives, observers at the polling stations it will be possible to follow the entire process”, Mukuchyan said.

The citizen entering a polling station must present his identification document to the specialist who uploads the document into the equipment. The information about the voter will be displayed on the screen of the equipment, following which the citizen must give fingerprints by the request of the specialist. Afterwards, the machine prints the coupon containing information about the voter after which the specialist returns the coupon and the document to the voter.

According to Davit Harutyunyan, Minister-Chief of Government Staff of Armenia, frauds at the polling stations are almost excluded. “Of course, not only the equipment but also the voter lists that we are going to promulgate eliminate the possibilities of frauds”, Harutyunyan said, adding that anyone can check and see that the names are not repeated.

The EU has allocated over 7 million Euros to the Armenian Government for the acquisition of the new technical equipment to be applied during the April 2 parliamentary elections.
