Expert on Arabic studies sees tactical changes in IS operations

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS. Nearly 320.000 people were killed, and 150.000 are missing due to the conflict in Syria for 6 years, Sargis Grigoryan – expert on Arabic studies, Researcher at the Department of Armenian-Kurdish Relations in YSU Institute of Armenian Studies, told reporters on March 18, reports “Armenpress”.

“In this unpredictable and uncontrollable situation one thing is clear that this conflict will not be settled in 2017 since there are still a number of unresolved issues in Syria starting from the Islamic State up to the Kurdish factor”, he said.

The expert said the Islamic State terrorist group changes its tactics.

“The terrorists are trying to get out of the big cities and continue the fight through partisan clashes. It is still early to speak about their complete elimination. I think that the final elimination of the Islamic State will be in Iraq rather than in Syria”, Sargis Grigoryan said, adding that 5 cities of Iraq are under the IS control.

The Syrian conflict has started on March 15, 2011. Ceasefire was established on February 27, 2016 which doesn’t relate to groups that are recognized as terrorist by the UN.
