Governor’s Office has no legal grounds to interfere in patriarchal elections – reaction of Armenian
MPs of Turkey

YEREVAN, MARCH 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenian members of Turkish Majlis Garo Paylan and Selina Doğan have commented on the interference of Istanbul Governor’s Office following the publication of the results of the election of the locum tenens of the Armenian Patriarchate and the current situation, “Armenpress” reports Istanbul-based “Agos” informs.

Member of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party Garo Paylan said, “Today it became known that His Holiness Aram ruled the Patriarchy as a Vicar and now, with collaboration with someone within the state, carried out a coup d'état to be able to continue his activities. We do not accept this coup, we must not accept it. Finally, the election of the locum tenens has taken place and one of the candidates won. We should all congratulate the winner and immediately speed up the works of Patriarchal election”, he said.

MP from Kemalist Republican People's Party Selina Doğan also reacted to the interference of the Governor’s Office, saying “Nothing can be acceptable here. No legal grounds. This interference made the process more complicated”.
