Gaspar Karapetyan says Turkey further moves away from Europe

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 24, ARMENPRESS. The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy intensifies the works on the recognition and reparation issue of the Armenian Genocide, Gaspar Karapetyan – Chairman of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy, told a press conference in “Armenpress”, adding that this year a number of events will be held.

“The parliaments of various countries have Armenian Genocide recognition resolutions, however, we are not publishing them for obvious reasons. The recognition process will continue. Except the recognition process, we concentrate our forces in the reparation platform”, he said.

This year two main events are scheduled on this path. A round-table discussion will be held in June, and in October the 4th Congress of the Armenians of Europe will take place. The agenda will include the Genocide reparation issue, it will be clarified how this issue must be organized in various countries. It will last several days, the agenda issues of Armenia, Karabakh, Diaspora will be presented. The previous congress was held in 2013, with 350 participants.

Gaspar Karapetyan attached importance to conducting works within Turkey, although Turkey has far moved away from democratic processes.

“Significant changes were made in Turkey since 2015, Erdogan wanted to show that he is progressive. During that time we were saying that Turkey doesn’t want to see its past, thus it cannot become a democratic country. Turkey further moves away from Europe”, Gaspar Karapetyan said.
