Political scientist says Republican Party of Armenia is going for rebranding

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 16, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan doesn’t see any serious competition for the Republican Party among the political forces. According to him, the main struggle is taking place among the opposition.

“An interesting situation is being created: first of all, regarding the Republican Party list, we see the first 10 persons included are rather young: judging by the list, we can say the oligarchs will be in lower positions. I think the parliamentary majority will be formed in any case by the Republican Party, and the other seats will be allocated among the opposition. All other parties are competitors for each other. About the others, I can say Gagik Tsarukyan will probably unite the oligarch sector around him, will try to take the significant part of the Parliament. The remaining political forces will compete for the other rather small seats”, he said.

According to him, the Republican Party is moving forward by a clear designed program, that is, it is going for re-branding. “This way they are willing to change the face of the party, showing that the same people aren’t included. This was expectable”, he said.

The Parliamentary election in Armenia is set to be held on April 2.
