“Dink was entirely devoted to making the world a better place” – Turkish academic Murat Belge

“Dink was entirely devoted to making the world a better place” – Turkish academic Murat Belge

YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS. Hrant Dink was a fair, humane, courageous and moral man. He was entirely devoted to making the world a better place, Murat Belge, Turkish academic and civil rights activist told ARMENPRESS, speaking on Hrant Dink’s life and legacy on the occasion of the 10th anniversary marking his death.

“His main peculiarity was his ability to reflect his inner kindness on the world. When he was speaking, it was unable to not notice that a humble and love-filled person is speaking. I think that’s the reason why his funeral became into an unexpected “event”. Those who marched in the streets for Hrant, included people who we used to see in political gatherings. However I very well remember, in addition to them there were people who differed a lot from the latter, different people. This was an evidence to the fact that Hrant’s voice was heard in very different circles of the society and made the society love him”, Belge said.

Belge emphasized that Dink left his mark on the Turkish society after his death. “Hrant is no more. The trial continues. There are people who are decisive in following the trial until the end (and that’s very meaningful). They are the “visible result” of Hrant Dink’s existence in the collective memory of the society. However I believe that there are also influences which are not visible”, Belge said. He mentioned that Hrant, who exists in the mentality of people, urges everyone to be better, saying: “We can be better than we are. Of course, it will take efforts, but it’s worth it”.
