Political scientist Minasyan says developments in Middle East may impact South Caucasus

YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Sergey Minasyan says the developments in the Middle East can have their influence also in the South Caucasus, reports “Armenpress”.

“It seems that during the recent months the involvement of Syria’s President Assad, as well as Russia in the military operations has been intensified. We can say there are short-term, but much more situational military-political agreements between Turkey, Russia and Iran in connection with the developments happening in the Middle East. It is understandable that all sides are trying to pursue their own interests, and it is not surprising that even after the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey the Russian-Turkish relations didn’t enter into crisis”, the political scientist told reporters.

He said these countries are trying to use the pause created as a result of the US presidential elections and to acquire more favorable military-political positions in that region.

“If that fight is directed against the Islamist forces, there will not be a significant negative impact on our region, but if this process results in clash between super powers and regional states, it is possible the wages of it will have their influence on our region”, Sergey Minasyan said.
