“Gazprom” offers new terms to Georgia over transit of Russian gas to Armenia

YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. “Gazprom” offered new payment conditions to Georgia for the Russian gas transit to Armenia, reports “Armenpress”.

Georgia’s Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said the details will be discussed during the Government’s session.

“Gazprom made an interesting proposal. I want to state that this is the last proposal. The main talk was focused on shifting to financial payment”, the Minister told IMEDI TV.

He said earlier several meetings were held with “Gazprom” but they didn’t bring any result since the sides had various stances. “I think the last proposal is interesting. We will discuss it in the Government and will make a respective decision”, he said.

The contract term between “Gazprom Export” and Georgia, that relates to the transit of the natural gas to Armenia, expired on January 1.

Georgia doesn’t buy Russian gas since 2007, the major gas supplier to Georgia is Azerbaijan which agreed to increase the supply volume in March, 2016.
