Turkey’s Parliament adopts first two articles of constitutional changes

YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Turkey’s Parliament discussed and adopted the first and second articles of the constitutional changes, reports Anadolu.

The first article was adopted by 374 votes in favor and 132 against. It supposes that “independent courts” concept enshrined in the Constitution must be replaced by “independent and impartial courts” term.

The second article, adopted by 343 votes in favor and 133 against, proposes that the number of MPs must be 600 from 550.

The proposal of the constitutional changes was initiated by Turkey’s ruling “Justice and Development” party. It aims to change the governance system, from parliamentary to presidential. The country’s president will be allowed to be a party member.
