YEREVAN, JANUARY 10, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is planning to establish Consulate General in the city of Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, the President’s respective draft decree is included in the Government’s January 12 session agenda, reports “Armenpress”.

According to the substantiation, the relations and multisectoral cooperation of Armenia and the countries of the Gulf region year by year record new progress. Before the establishment of diplomatic ties, certain trade-economic ties with those countries started to develop, especially through the city of Dubai.

“Currently Dubai is the world’s most important trade-economic centers. According to reports, the number of Armenian citizens living in the UAE, in particular, in Dubai, varies between 2500-3000. 4-5 flights are being regularly carried out per week, the number of Armenian citizens leaving for other transit countries through Dubai, as well as cargos have increased. There are over 70 consulates in Dubai.

Taking into account this, the geographical proximity to Armenia, the representation of Armenia’s business circles in the UAE, as well as the UAE business circles’ recent years interest towards Armenia, it is appropriate to establish Consulate General of Armenia in the city of Dubai by including the UAE’s northern emirates as a consular area”, stated in the substantiation.

It is expected that the establishment of the consulate general will enable to carry out activity in Dubai aimed at further deepening and developing the trade-economic and investment cooperation.
