Political scientist doesn’t expect policy change in South Caucasus under new US President

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. After the election of the US President that country will not make many changes it its foreign policy on the South Caucasus, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told “Armenpress”.

However, he says the White House new administration will have to revise its approaches towards all regions, as well as in its own country.

“If we would have carefully followed the election campaign, we would have seen that the Republican party candidate Donald Trump is more supportive of solving the US internal issues at first, and compared to the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, Trump supports less aggressive foreign policy especially in regions far from the US”, the political scientist said.

He said the experience showed that the approaches are always revised in the international policy, and the United States always tries to bring new approaches.

“I am confident that in all cases there will be new approaches, but I don’t think that regardless of their content and essence, the United States will change its foreign policy more in the South Caucasus”, he said.

The political scientist says there may be changes in the US foreign policy over the Middle East. He says interesting solutions are possible in the Middle East which will be directed towards the quick settlement of the Syrian conflict.
