YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received on November 2 US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, greeting the guest the President of the Republic recorded with satisfaction that Armenian-US relations have constantly developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations and the two friendly nations approach the 25^th anniversary of those relations with serious achievements reached during the last 1-2 years. Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the US government for supporting Armenia in economic development, reforms in various spheres, establishment of democracy and civil society and highly appreciated the role of the USA in preserving stability in South Caucasus.

The President of the Republic attached great importance to Armenian-US defense cooperation, particularly the support of the USA in defense reforms of Armenia, as well as development of Armenia’s capacities in humanitarian mine clearance and peacekeeping missions. President Sargsyan hoped that Michael Carpenter’s visit will further foster the development of Armenia-US relations.

The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that the current high level relations between the two states are based on mutual trust between the two peoples and today Armenia and the US have firm partnering relations in both bilateral and multilateral platforms.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter expressed gratitude for Armenia’s contribution to peace-keeping operations.

President Sargsyan and Michael Carpenter discussed issues of future development of relations in defense and for regional and international security.
