“Rosatom” considers extension of Armenian NPP operation a huge project

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is one of the active participants of the Commission of CIS member states on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and has a great input on the Commission works, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for International Relations at "Rosatom" Nikolai Spassky told reporters in Yerevan.

“One of the major goals of our Commission is to create favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation, and in this regard Armenia is one of the active participants of our joint works and has a great input on that”, he said.

He also commented on the agreement signed between the Government of Armenia and Russia through which the exploitation of the second unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has been extended for 10 years. “It is a huge project for us”, he said.

He also said within the framework of the Commission session in Yerevan they will discuss issues related to personnel training. “We give a priority to the topic of personnel training. In recent years a number of works were carried out on that path and a progress is realized. We also attach an importance to the issue of reconnaissance nuclear equipment safety since such reactors exist in almost all CIS member states. This is a really important and practical issue for us”, Spassky said.
