YEREVAN, OCTOBER 8, ARMENPRESS. The recognition of the NKR’s independence by Azerbaijan is a key for achieving the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, the NKR President’s spokesman Davit Babayan said in an interview with “Armenpress”.

Referring to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement who said the international pressure is being exerted on him behind the closed doors, Babayan said the international community fully understands that without that recognition the conflict settlement is impossible.

“The sooner Azerbaijan recognizes the NKR’s independence without any precondition, the easier the conflict settlement. Without such recognition it is impossible to achieve significant result towards comprehensive settlement especially when Azerbaijan continues its destructive Nazi policy and wants to achieve a result with ultimatums. When Aliyev speaks about such pressures, it means that the international community is radically revising its approaches towards the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict settlement”, Davit Babayan said.

To the question whether these pressures will lead to certain results, Babayan said Aliyev has thrown himself into a difficult situation and it is his own guilty that currently Armenophobia, as well as hatred against not only Armenians, but also other people became the state ideology.

In fact Aliyev must refuse from this since the recognition of NKR’s independence by Azerbaijan is not only a political issue, but it also became a serious psychological problem.

“It will mean that the resources wasted so many years, the victims and destructions the Azerbaijani President committed only considering his own interests, rather than those of people or state”, Davit Babayan said.  

He also said it is beneficial for an ordinary Azerbaijani citizen that his country recognize the NKR’s independence and the issue to be solved.

Official Baku is no longer able to hide that the international community stresses the necessity of the recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the Government’s session.

“They are exerting pressure on us behind the closed doors aiming to lead to the recognition of the NKR’s independence. We don’t reveal many details since there are diplomatic rules”, Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani President said active propaganda is being carried out against Azerbaijan over the NKR’s recognition. He even blamed the media and non-governmental organizations of the Western countries on this issue.
