IT sector can become driving force for Armenia’s progress – Prime Minister says

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS.  Prime Minister of Armenia received the representatives of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and Union of Employers of Information and Communication Technologies (UEICT) on September 30. As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Government of Armenia, highlighting the development potentials of the IT sector in Armenia, the PM mentioned that he expects to hear from the participants of the meeting about the measures they believe the Government should take to foster not only a competitive IT production, but also the implementation of long-term effective projects.

The representatives of UITE and UEICT introduced to Karen Karapetyan the ongoing projects and the problems facing the sphere, as well as made some proposals. Particularly, the issues of the introduction of entrepreneurship education and vocational training at public schools and higher educational institutions in Yerevan and provinces, creation of engineering activity groups, establishment of a technological university, as well as other issues referring to the legal framework regulating the sector were raised.

The head of the executive particularly highlighted the development of technological education, mentioning that the availability of education and cadre preparation issue in the provinces must be specially focused on.  The PM underscored the importance of the IT sector for the development of other branches of economy, and mentioned that it can become be driving force for Armenia’s progress.

PM Karapetyan urged the IT sector representatives to submit their ideas and proposals to responsible agencies and assigned relevant ministers to actively cooperate with them.
