CB Armenia expects no drastic fluctuations of exchange rates

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS.  The Central Bank of Armenia finds no reasons to interfere in the currency market since it expects no drastic fluctuations of exchange rates, head of monetary policy department at the CB Armenia Vahagn Grigoryan told the reporters on September 30. “The Central Bank has announced several times that it pursues a floating exchange rate policy and interferes in the currency market only in case of drastic short-term fluctuations. We foresee no such fluctuations for now”, “Armenpress” reports Grigoryan saying.

According to him the exchange rate fluctuations in 2014 in Armenia were conditioned by certain behavior, clarifying that individuals expecting inflation for some reasons, tried to secure themselves by buying foreign currencies. “These inflationary expectations have significantly decreased in the last two years, and we have evidences about that. This also allows the CB to lower the refinancing rate in line with the mentioned forecasts”, Vahagn Grigoryan explained.
