Turkey’s National Security Council recommends extending country’s state of emergency

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. Turkey’s National Security Council convened under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recommended to extend the country’s ongoing state of emergency during September 28 session, Anadolu reported.

“It has been agreed to recommend to extend the state of emergency in order to ensure the continuity of the effective implementation of the measures aiming to protect our democracy, the rule of law and the rights and freedoms of our citizens," the statement reads.

At the same time, it was also recommended to declare July 15, the day of the military coup attempt, as a “Day of Democracy and Freedoms” in Turkey.

Turkey declared a state of emergency on July 20 after the military coup attempt in the country. The Turkish leadership repeatedly announced about the possibility to extend the state of emergency.
