Armenian acting FM delivers speech at Berkeley University of California

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on September 27 delivered a speech at the Berkeley University of California, press service of the MFA informed “Armenpress”.

In his speech the acting Minister presented in-detail the Azerbaijani aggression unleashed against Nagorno Karabakh in April and the situation created as a result of it.

“In April Azerbaijan, grossly violating 19940-1995 ceasefire agreements, unleashed a planned large-scale aggression against Nagorno Karabakh by applying offensive arms such as air force, heavy artillery, multiple rocket launchers, tanks. This attack was accompanied by gross violations of the international humanitarian law. Baku’s this adventure greatly impacted the negotiations and had a serious effect on the peaceful process”, Edward Nalbandian said.

“We together with the Co-Chairs are making efforts to overcome the consequences of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan. In this context, it is necessary to restore the trust towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict, which we see on the creation of conditions preventing the use of force and contributing to moving forward the peaceful process. This was the major goal of the summits held in Vienna in May and St. Petersburg in June. First of all, the agreements reached at the summits must be implemented which are the followings: full respect and implementation of 1994-1995 trilateral termless ceasefire agreements, installation of investigative mechanisms for ceasefire violations, and expansion of capabilities of the office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office”, the acting Minister highlighted.

Responding to the participants’ question, Edward Nalbandian talked about the Syrian crisis, the steps aimed at solving the issues of Syrian Armenians, Armenia’s relations with neighboring states, Armenia’s approaches on a number of regional issues, the works of the UN General Assembly’s 71st session, his meetings during the visit in the US and their results.
