Armenian senior official does not rule out promulgation of voter lists: negotiations with
opposition to continue

YEREVAN, AUGUST 31, ARMENPRESS. The authorities of Armenia have the political will and will spare no efforts to invest such mechanisms in the Electoral Code that will rule out any type of electoral frauds, spokesperson of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Vice President of the Armenian parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told the reporters after the Executive Body meeting of the party, reminding the decision of the Central Electoral Commission by which the agreements reached over the Electoral Code between the authorities, the opposition and the civil society are annulled.

“The RPA will do everything to invest trust-building mechanisms in the Electoral Code aimed at increasing public trust towards electoral processes and their results. We do not rule out investment of new, extra mechanisms, maybe even the promulgation of the lists of the citizens who participated in the elections and tightening the punishment for electoral frauds. Negotiations with opposition will continue and we can reach a new agreement for holding elections with an amended Electoral Code. We will not consider the technical reasons due to which we were unable to bring into life the previous agreements as an obstacle for making new amendments that can be trusted by everyone”, “Armenpress” reports Sharmazanov saying.

At the same time he added that has attentively followed the comments of opposition figures, who hurried to announce that the authorities have no political will. “We have the political will and will spare no efforts to invest such mechanisms in the Electoral Code that will rule out any type of electoral frauds”, Sharmazanov reiterated.
