Relatives of massacred Avetisyan family to appeal against verdict to ECHR

Relatives of massacred Avetisyan family to appeal against verdict to ECHR

GYUMRI, AUGUST 31, ARMENPRESS. The relatives of the massacred Avetisyan family will appeal against the verdict in domestic courts and afterward even in the European Court for Human Rights.

Despite psychological difficulties, the relatives are even ready to approve exhumation for fully revealing the case, the daughters of the Avetisyans – Lusine Avetisyan, Anahit Koshtoyan and their husbands told reporters on August 31.

They complained from the preliminary investigation and the entire trial procedure and expressed confidence that the convicted Valery Permyakov had an accomplice.

They said the fact that law enforcement agencies failed to summon Permyakov’s direct commander to Armenia is surprising. The commander personally brought Permyakov from Chita to Gyumri, and supervised him at the 102nd military base.

“Everything was clear initially,  during the entire procedure the court didn’t uphold any motion filed by us or our attorneys. The verdict was delivered in our absence”, Egor Adamyan said.

“All our questions remain unanswered, but even if this issue must be revealed years later, we won’t be silent”, Lusine Avetisyan said, adding they have no information about the whereabouts of Permyakov.

Speaking about the lawsuit filed in Russia, Lusine Avetisyan said they don’t care about money, they care about the punishment.

“They offered us assistance from the very beginning, but we refused, because our blood is not for sale. We did this so the state – in this case Russia – has clear knowledge whom they are sending to Armenia. We don’t care about this lawsuit and we did it so they get punished”, she said.

Permyakov was sentenced to life imprisonment on August 23.
