Meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents not confirmed yet – Sharmazanov

YEREVAN, AUGUST 26, ARMENPRESS. Another meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents is not confirmed yet, RPA spokesperson, Vice President of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told the reporters after the Executive Body meeting of the Republican Party. “Naturally, we have always supported negotiations, but it is necessary that the sides fully implement the preconditions for the ceasefire for the resumption of talks. Armenia has always announced it advocates a peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict”, “Armenpress” reports Sharmazanov mentioned.

The Vice President of the parliament added that in order to progress in the negotiations, it is first of all necessary that the agreements reached between the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Vienna and St. Petersburg are also implemented. “And those agreements are very precise: investment of mechanisms investigating incidents on the contact line and the expansion of the team and office of the OSCE Chairman in office. As long as the sides have not concluded those preconditions, it can be hardly expected any new progress”, Sharmazanov said.

At the same time the Vice President of the National Assembly mentioned that Armenia will never make a step back from the negotiations. “The people of Nagorno Karabakh Republic must be able to fully implement its right to self-determination through referendum. The key is first of all in Stepanakert. The people of Nagorno Karabakh Republic must decide their fate by their own”, Eduard Sharmazanov concluded.
