US Vice-President candidates’ views on Armenian issues

YEREVAN, JULY 25, ARMENPRESS. US Vice-President’s Democratic Party candidate Tim Kaine for years has supported the discussion and solutions of the Armenian issues by the US legislative and executive bodies, “Armenpress” reports citing the ANCA official website.

Senator Kaine has been largely supportive of Armenian issues - including Armenian Genocide recognition - since his days as mayor of Richmond and in Virginia state government.

Kaine received C+ grade from the ANCA (the highest is A, the lowest F) for his attention and support to the Armenian issues.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 2014, Kaine proposed to make changes in the 410 resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide and voted in favor of that resolution.

“But the fact of the Ottoman's Empire's genocide against Armenia in 1915 is where — our ambassador to the United Nations has written a book about it. We confirmed her because of her passionate advocacy about this issue”, he said.

US Vice-President Republican Nominee Mike Pence also expressed his active stance over the Armenian issues. As a member of the US House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee in 2005 he voted in favor of the number 195 and 316 resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide, however, in 2007 and 2010 he voted against similar resolutions. By voting against, Mike Pence said he doesn’t question the fact of the Armenian Genocide, but he thinks the adoption of that resolution may have negative impact on the Turkish-American relations.
