YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Dirge ceremony of famous football player of “Ararat-73, legend of Armenian football Hovhannes Zanazanyan took place at Yerevan St. Hovhannes Church. Zanazanyan’s playmates, football commentators, former footballers of Armenian national football team, numerous citizens who once had the opportunity to follow his beautiful play.  Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan attended Hovhannes Zanazanyan’s dirge ceremony.

Former head coach of Armenia national team and Yerevan’s “Ararat” club, Suren Barsegyan, told “Armenpress” that Hovhannes Zanazanyan was among those people who will never be forgotten. “Calling him a legend is not enough but I do not know what word to use instead of legend to describe him. “Ararat-73” represented our nation during the years of the Soviet Union. I can say that “Ararat-73” was more important during that period than the current Armenia national team. Maybe I am saying a contradictory thing, but I am under that impression. Becoming the Soviet Union champion at that time is equivalent to today’s champion of Europe”, the coach mentioned.
