Economist expects reduction in electricity tariff next year

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Economist Vardan Bostanjyan didn’t exclude the possibility of tariff reduction in 2016 presenting his clarification.

“We must always realize that the formation of electricity tariff depends on the amount of expenses in the system. The current owner is interested in improving the efficiency of ENA management for which he promised to make appropriate investments.  Besides, the new owner will take steps to stabilize the expenses of his enterprise after which we can also expect reduction in electricity tariff,” “Armenpress” reports, Bostanjyan expressed such an opinion during his meeting with the journalists on October 5, adding that according to his calculations, an investment of about 500 million USD was necessary for the modernization of ENA systems.

Tashir Group and Inter RAO have signed an agreement of sale and purchase of electric energy assets in Armenia on September 30.

“Tashir Group takes full responsibility for the management of CJSC "Electric Networks of Armenia", said the President of Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan. “Future development plans include an anti-crisis program to optimize the Company’s financial activities and control its commercial operations, as well as gradual modernization of its distribution network facilities. On a parity basis with the Government of Armenia, the Company will cover part of the electricity costs of the general public and small businesses for the whole of 2015, compensating the difference between tariffs before and after increase of electricity tariff on 1st August 2015. This decision has been taken to support the people of Armenia”, Samvel Karapetyan mentioned.
