IMF revises forecast of Armenia’s economic growth index, increasing it to 2.5%

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMNPRESS. The International Monetary Fund revised Armenia’s economic growth index and assessed it at 2.5%. As Mark Horton, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief to Armenia, mentioned in an interview with journalists, economic growth slightly surpassed their expectations this year. “Forecast of economic growth during our last meeting in April was 1%, now it is 2.5%”, “Armenpress” reports, Mark Horton said. According to him, economic growth of 2015 is partly explained by non-recurrent factors which will not happen next year. “Among that non-recurrent factors are launching the copper factory, unprecedented favorable climate conditions and the good results recorded by the sector of agriculture”, the official said, adding that less economic growth is foreseen for the next year, nearly 2.2%.

International Monetary Fund Mission Chief to Armenia noted that there are positive trends in the sense that exports directed to the Persian Gulf and the Middle East are increasing. The official also indicated the factors of strengthening relations with China and the works over the new framework agreement with Europe, which will be complementary to Armenia’s membership to the EAEU.
