Armenia among 18 countries not discriminating women

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is included in the list of countries which legislations do not contain discriminatory provisions against women. “Armenpress” informs that the report of the World Bank on women, business and the law reveals this fact.

The World Bank did a research in 173 countries, only 18 out of which do not contain discriminatory provisions against women in their legislations. Canada, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain and Taiwan are included in the same list with Armenia.

According to the World Bank data, discriminatory attitude towards women is mainly enshrined in labor legislation in most countries. The report indicates that in 18 countries married women cannot find a job without the permission of their husbands. The following countries are included in that list: Bahrain, Bolivia, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Mauritania, Niger, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

The report was made based on the level of women rights in the sphere of employment and entrepreneurship. The report studied a number of cases such as: Can women do the work they like or are loans attainable for women?
