Armenia ranks 43th in 2015 Global AgeWatch Index

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. Armenia ranks 43th among 96 countries included in Global Watch Age Index 2015  report for the index of life quality of elderly people.

“Armenpress” reports that according to the report 90.3 per cent of people over 50 feel their life has meaning regarding psychological well-being

Between 2013 and 2014 the employment rate amongst 55-64 year olds decreased and currently 61.7% of the population aged 55-64 is employed. According to the report, much of the employment strategy is aimed at younger workers. A total of 83.7% of the population aged 60 and over have secondary or higher education which shows that Armenia has excellent indexes for education among elderly people.

According to the report the citizens of the Republic of Armenia above 60 will comprise 23.8% of the population by 2030.

Switzerland is the most favorable country for elderly people, the worst is Afghanistan.

Georgia and Turkey are also included in the report ranking 29th and 75th respectively.
