Artashes Geghamyan: Alternativeness of Armenia’s foreign policy must be adopted

YEREVAN, AUGUST 24, ARMENPRESS. The alternativeness of Armenia’s foreign policy, led by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, is confirmed especially during the activities of distinguished international organizations.

There are many examples. This year, for instance, the annual session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly took place in Helsinki on July 5-9. It was very important not only for the reason that it was held on the 40th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act. The fact that the session was convened under the conditions of unprecedented escalation of tension on international arena, refusal of RF delegation to participate in the session, the military operations by the “Islamic State” in Iraq and Syria and the clashed between the armed forces of Turkey and Kurdish armed organizations.

We are greatly worried over the tension between our strategic ally, Russia, and EU member states and the USA, as well as the activation of subversive activities and the cynic information war waged by Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh.

Under such circumstances it is very important to reasonably use international platforms to present the foreign policy course of Armenia on the international arena which proved its alternativeness during the years of turbulent and dangerous international developments.

In this context the President’s March 18, 2015 speech given during “At the feet of Ararat” 5th media conference is worth mentioning. I will cite from that speech, “Being a CSTO member, Armenia has simultaneously developed cooperation with NATO strengthening international peace and security by participating in peacekeeping missions. Our foreign policy is also directed at developing friendly relations with the US and strengthening the specific relations with France”.

Here I find it necessary to present some documents which speak for themselves.

Chair of the Committee on Political Affairs and Security in the U.S. Senate and Co-Chair of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Roger Wicker sent a letter to your humble servant, which proves the words of the President. I present the letter to the readers.

I also attach importance to the letters of the next Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Roberto Montella.

Artashes Geghamyan,

Deputy of National Assembly, head of the NA delegation to OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, leader of “National Unity” party.
